AED PRESCRIPTION REQUIREMENT
The FDA currently categorizes most AEDs as medical devices requiring a prescription to purchase (see exception below). Additionally, many areas also have regulations which require your "AED Program" to be supervised by a physician and meet certain conditions.
Each AED owner must then follow the applicable federal, state and local laws and regulations for their state. Your local emergency responders network can help you easily meet these requirements.
AED Prescription Exception:
The FDA has approved the *Phillips HeartStart OnSite AED "over-the-counter" status, thus allowing you to purchase this device WITHOUT A PRESCRIPTION, when purchasing for your home!
*If you wish to purchase the infant/child pads with the Philips OnSite AED, a medical prescription IS required*
